36 Hours of Rain!

We were headlining Tavistock Summer Solstice festival last night and arrived at about 8pm to find that it had already been raining for 24 hours and everything was a wee bit wet. The rain alternated between drizzle and total downpour! Nice!

We had a couple of beers and watched the bands before us but we couldn't help but think how many more people there would have been if it had been better weather.

We were due on at 11.30 but times had slipped throughout the day so we didn't get on stage until 12.30am. The organisers had hoped to let us play our full set but at 1am we were told we had 15 minutes left to play - the police were nearby and would enforce the music licence.

So, we were a bit sad not to play our full set but glad we could reward the people who turned out for the festival who were impressively mad to stand in that much rain.

Well done to Steve for organising it, and big thanks to the sound guys who did a great job swapping the bands over.

Line Dancing at Zephyr

When the manager at Zephyr told me that we'd be playing upstairs due to refurbishments downstairs, I felt less than excited. It's a lot of heavy stuff to lug upstairs! But it's a very nice space and worked really well. There was a dance floor in front of us and another to the side so lots of space for people to boogie about.

Funniest moment: John and Bully do a silly dance during Psycho Killer which the people to the left joined in with resulting in about 10 people stepping back and forwards in a hokey kokey kind of manner.

Next time we'll probably be back downstairs. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new stage, lights and PA are like.

We have our third shipment of tshirts on order. We're hoping to get them before this weekend's gigs and will have stock of all sizes, small up to XXL. Buy them online or at a gig.

It's great knowing that there's about 100 of these wandering around

Dirt Devil Dave

The audience at the Pen and Quill last night were surprised to see that Katie was looking decidedly male and sporting a beard. Actually no, Dirt Devil Dave was standing in for Katie while she's in Germany for five solo gigs. And a grand job he did too.

He's playing with us at Tavistock Summer Solstice festival next week so this was a warm up gig with a very "hit heavy" setlist and not as many of the lesser known tunes.

A couple of guys came over from Wellington whcih was cool and obviously natural victims for John to stroke during Toxic. It was good to see Mutley up and about again, and as always great to see Gary, Andy and Mark and the lovely people with the beautiful (and expensive) boots dancing their socks off.

Top moment for me was when a suitcase that Bully uses for his bass stuff was cast into the dance floor as a substitute handbag and Indesit dancing round it. It was a rather comedic gig with interjections from the whole band - even Dave got in with a sarcastic comment during one of Hoover's lengthy intros.

Do do dum dum do, do do do do do do.......

Andy at BayFM just emailed me the interview that Hoover and Tefal did last week. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I didn't hear it live because I was watching Indiana Jones at the cinema with Indesit! Oopsie! It was great to hear it finally.

As well as lots of talk about The REOFFENDERS, there's also a live recording of Katie Tefal playing and singing her own material... my favourite "Not Like You", AKA "the do do do do do song"

Have a listen...

Cheers to Martin for inviting us to the interview and to Andy for sending me the MP3. I hope you guys enjoyed listening to BayFM - if you did, email radio@bayfm.co.uk and tell them what you thought. Any comments however small will help towards them getting a permanent license. Andy and Julie have worked their asses of for this and I really hope they get it!

First Gig at Kingsbridge

Saturday saw the Reoffenders debuting in Kingsbridge, not exactly known for its punk rock credentials but hey, we're happy to spread the good word!

Hoover, Indesit and I went over early as it was a nice day and checked the pub out before going for a stroll along the river and a mooch around town. Very nice it was too. We had some food at the Creeks End before setting up our stuff in a leisurely manner.

Some confusion over the finish time meant that we had to stop early but as the crowd called for more we got a reprieve and kept going till 11.30pm. I'm not sure that the audience quite new what to make of us when we started but by half time, were getting into it. I think it was the Seasons in the Sun silly dance that did it ;-)

It's a really nice pub so hopefully we'll be back there in the Autumn

A Busy Bank Holiday!

We continued our busy weekend with a late booking at the Longbrooke in Exeter. It's a great venue for live music and its nice that we consistently fill the place and get a good reception. My favourite moment was the guy in the Ministry Tshirt headbanging to Seasons in the Sun.

Bully had his monitor and mic stand flattened once again but not through drunkeness....twas a balloon accident! A nice lady was dancing in front of the band and lost her footing through shock when a load of red balloons came her way.

Sunday night was back at the Vintage. The gig had been moved indoors and we were a bit sad about that... until the heavens opened at about 8pm and suddenly we were very glad to be inside. As usual, the Vintage massive pogoed like gooduns from start to finish. Well done to Steve for getting away from the bar for a few minutes during Seasons in the Sun, cheers to Dave for bringing some Exeter people up to Wellington (I told you it was mad, didn't I!) and to Nigel for moshing like a mad thing all night ;-)

Do we really have to wait till August to see you again? Apparently so, but we will be in the gardens next time hopefully so I want everyone in Wellington doing sunshine dances, ok?

Marine Theatre Last Night

We're just surfacing today after a late one last night, but a bloody good one :-)

Indesit and I went over to Lyme Regis at about 4pm to hand out flyers. A lot of Lyme Regis seemed to be either going home after their holiday or had kids so couldn't come out. I was starting to think I had a few too many flyers at one point.

Mummy Indesit had come down for the gig and is a demon on flyering so things picked up and we had hardly any left by half five. Hailing Star, our support band, had beaten us to the theatre so after quick hellos we got onto the job of bringing in amps and drums. It's surprising how quickly it all comes together, but it was hugely helpful that we had an external sound engineer who had already setup the PA.

Hailing Star started at 8.30pm and went down really well. They've only been together a couple of months and their all aged between 15 and 17. Very impressive stuff. They had a nice mixture of originals and covers.... their originals are so catchy that for a moment, I assumed they were covers.

We had a few interesting moments on stage (Bully losing his pick, Indesit reading a copy of the wrong setlist...) but on the whole, a great gig (if I may say so myself!). I do think we're at our best on a stage but my God, it was hot up there! It's very difficult to maintain the energy after two hours in that heat but I think that half way through, you start getting aclimatised to some degree.

After the gig, we chilled out a bit and mingled with the audience. Carol and her friend, who run a B&B locally, invited us to the Nags Head for post gig drinkies so we called in there on the way home. Poor buggers had to be up at 6am to do breakfasts! urgh! It also gave us another chance to meet up with Mummy Indesit again ;-)

Big thanks to Giles, the Merch Master and to Kataya for stepping in at short notice to do the lights. Oh and thanks to Nigel and Margie for booking us - we'll look forward to coming back next year.

The Phoenix Rises From the Ashes (again)

The Phoenix have had a bit of a turnaround on music and have decided to keep going, but to a strict budget. We've been lucky enough to keep both of our gigs that were booked, so thanks to The Phoenix and everyone who watches us there for sticking with us.

I think the pub is being run by temporary managers whilst its up for sale so time will tell what the future holds longterm.

International(ish) again

The bit of good news we got today was that we're booked to play Jersey in October! Wooo!

Two gigs on 3rd and 4th October and we get to stay in a big posh hotel. Hoover's worked really hard to land this... well done!

Bad News from Butlins

Butlins has a new entertainments manager at Minehead and in the middle of the changeover there was a mixup on our gig. I won't tell you the whole sad sorry story but our gig on June 8th at Butlins has been cancelled.

Marine Theatre THIS FRIDAY

Excitement is building in REOFFENDERS world as we look forward to a big stage gig on Friday. There's nothing quite like having room to run around, not to mention proper lights and big sound! It'll be a two hour onslaught of classic, modern and downright silly punk: everything from the Pistols to Britney with Rancid inbetween! lurrrvely

However we received sad news that Thirty Second Rule have had to withdraw from the support slot because of personal matters. They're gutted and I'm sad that I won't be hearing "Hidden Agenda" on Friday. Stepping into their place is Hailing Star, a young Exeter band who play a mixture of covers and originals. Check out their myspace - impressive stuff!

It's gonna be a great gig so don't miss out. Tickets are available from the Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442138, priced at £6 in advance or £8 on the door.

REOFFENDERS on the radio next week

Exmouth has a new radio station, Bay FM, and The REOFFENDERS will be interviewed next Wednesday on Martin Weller's show (6-8pm). Find them now on 107.9FM in the Exmouth area or listen online at www.bayfm.co.uk.

Station Manager, Andy Green is a good friend of ours and has worked hard on making a programme schedule with good variety. Something for everyone! They're on air between 19th May and 1st June and are hoping to be awarded a permanent licence so please, give them a listen and if you like what you hear, drop them a line to say so.

We're delighted to find so many of our friends in one place: Martin Weller (Crush UK and Bobkatz) and Radar Dyson both have shows. It's good to hear their ability to talk underwater going to good use ;-)

Unexpected Gig in Exeter this Saturday

I got a call from Ali at the Longbrook this evening. They had a cancellation on Saturday and needed someone to play.

So that's rather nice! We get to see all you lovely Exeter people sooner than expected

A Great "Night Off" Last night

Hoover, Indesit and I went to Exeter Phoenix last night (with Si Cillet-Bang! who was home from Dorset for the weekend) to see the mighty Skindred. Skindred were great as always but the show was stolen a little by one of the support bands, Exeter based Sanguine.

They're a female fronted metal band who were also visually good to watch as well as musically. Their vocalist has an amazing voice from sweet melodic to full on screaming whilst the guitarist had great complimenting backing vocals.

Go and listen at Sanguine's Myspace. Your ears will love you for it. My favourites: War Song and Tonight

It's All Gone Punk at Butlins!

We're playing at Butlins, Minehead in June as part of their 70s weekend. We knew that we were following a Blondie tribute band but while I was wandering around the internet t'other day, I spotted that the Sex Pistols Experience are playing Butlins the same day as us. I can only think that they're .. us!

What a cracking lineup! It'll be great to catch up with the SPE guys (and gals) again. If you haven't seen them before, make the effort. They look like the real thing and they sound like em too.

Rather looking forward to that now

A Jolly Night at the Porter

We were at the Jolly Porter in Exeter on Saturday. As promised, we delivered a different set but we did repeat the newer songs to get them bedded in. They certainly felt alot better from my perspective after just those two gigs.

Indesit was feeling all excited with new toys. His Ibanez guitar has been in Mansons for the last couple of weeks getting a Bareknuckle Nailbomb pickup fitted. Nope, I don't know what that means either but he assures me that it's very good (but yes, he's right, it does squeal like a goodun now). He's had his Ibanez for about 15 years and it was nice to see it being first choice again.

Nice lady, Louise, was celebrating her birthday and danced with her friends all night, right down the front. By the time the balloons came out, they were getting downright silly with each of them stuffing balloons up their clothes in new and interesting ways. Made me laugh!

There was one guy at the front who was going mental at every song right from the start, including dancing on a table. When we did Antipope, I thought his head was going to explode! I knew that that song wouldn't be known by very many people but the ones that do know it, would go wild. I had a little smug moment, knowing that I was right ;-)

It was a really nice vibe on Saturday with new people still finding us. Thanks - we had a great time!

Death of a Music Venue

Venues always come and go - always have done. But we're particularly sorry to hear that the Phoenix is Exmouth is ceasing live music.

We've been playing there for three years now and have always had a great audience. It's one of the venues where I always felt that we had a home crowd.

So thanks to you Exmouth peeps for coming out to see us each time. We hope to see you at one of our Exeter gigs soon.
